Ogle-Lee RTA Executive Board Meeting- 11/09/2022
The Ogle-Lee RTA Executive Board met in person on Wednesday, November 9, 2022 at the Village Bakery's meeting room in Oregon. President Kim McKenna called the meeting to order at 9:30 AM with the following members present: Kim McKenna, Carole Sutton, Linda Kenney, Jean Whipple, Jean Hoff, and Elke Grennan.
The motion by Jean Whipple and seconded by Carole Sutton to approve the July 19, 2022 Board Minutes, the September 8, 2022 E-mail Board Minutes, and September 15,2022 E-mail Board Minutes was approved.
Treasurer Linda Kenny presented the annual budget report with a reminder that it was for year one of the two year budget. Income and expenses for fiscal year 2022 were reviewed. No errors were found and no adjustments to the two-year budget were proposed. The motion by Jean Hoff and seconded by Jean Whipple to accept the Treasurer's Report of November 9,2022 and the annual review by the Board was approved. As of 11/09/22, the checking account balance was $7116.33, the Memorial Fund balance was $115.81, and the Life Account balance was $8062.75. Total were $15,294.89.
As postage prices are scheduled to increase, Board members may purchase stamps for future use.
Membership Chairperson Jean Whipple reported that the Ogle-Lee RTA currently has 299 members. Membership is decreasing due to deaths of members and recent retiree trend of not joining organizations. Twelve members still have not renewed local memberships. Jean Whipple reported that IRTA is currently not able to generate localized monthly membership activity reports and only sends a complete report upon request making it more difficult to keep updated.
Legislative Chairperson Kim McKenna reported that state and local election results are not final until certification dates and that IRTA continues to monitor TRS insurance concerns and lawsuits.
Historian-Memorials Chairperson Jean Hoff expressed her appreciation of Board Members forwarding member obituaries or death notices to her. She will verify membership with Jean Whipple. She will also continue to save any newspaper announcements or articles about Ogle-Lee RTA.
Foundation Chairperson Phil Bratta was unable to attend the meeting. This year's Ogle-Lee RTA
Scholarship recipients will be invited to speak at the next Membership Luncheon Meeting. The next round of Ogle-Lee RTA Scholarships will be whenever funding is available in the Memorial Fund.
Since members prefer Wednesday meetings, May 10,2023 and September 13, 2023 were tentatively selected for Membership Luncheon Meetings. The dates are subject to change depending on availability of sites. Vice-President Carole Sutton and Jean Whipple will explore possible locations with a preference to have at least one meeting in Lee County, convenient parking, handicap accessibility, reasonable price, and either meal availability or catering allowed. Suggestions for an informative or entertaining programs are needed.
The new luncheon reservation process resulted in a few unexpected attendees. It was decided the process worked relatively efficiently, and should go more smoothly as members adapt.
A question about attendance of Past-Presidents at Executive Board Meetings was clarified as the Ogle-Lee Constitution states “The Past-President (or Past Co-Presidents) shall be the consultant(s) for the present Executive Board and meet with the Board upon request.” It was agreed by consensus that Past- Presidents have attended previously and are welcome to attend if they wish.
It was agreed upon by consensus that the current Ogle-Lee RTA Constitution does not need to be formally reviewed for potential revisions at this time.
The Ogle-Lee RTA website and Facebook page will be updated as needed. Tentative meeting information and other updates will be e-mailed to members as deemed relevant by the President. The next edition of the newsletter will be in the spring after the March Executive Board Meeting.
IRTA has requested updated contact information for local officers. Kim McKenna will send.
A discussion of the trend of declining membership coincides with other IRTA units and national trend of declining membership in organizations as less younger people are joining organizations. The lack of opportunities to speak at schools and TRS meetings for upcoming retirees was discussed, as this limits the opportunity to reach out to teachers to become pipeline members in IRTA and Ogle-Lee RTA. Often only literature can be distributed and it is difficult to get contact information in a timely manner.
Kim McKenna will forward concerns about the notification of TRS insurance information to Area Representative and other relevant parties.
Executive Board Meetings for 2023 will all be held at the Village Bakery meeting room in Oregon, IL beginning at 9:30 AM on the following Tuesdays: March 14, July 11, and November 14.
A group photo of the Executive Board was taken to be posted on Facebook and the website.
The motion by Jean Whipple and seconded by Elke Grennan to adjourn at 10:45 was approved.
Elke Grennan, Secretary
